“To embrace sustainability is to adopt the perspective of the two-faced Roman god of portals…”

The quote, “To embrace sustainability is to adopt the perspective of the two-faced Roman god of portals, Janus , with one set of eyes looking forward and another set looking backwards” (p.28) had the biggest impact on me. it reminds me of the Adinkra symbol, Sankofa which means that you have to be aware of the past before you can look at the present or the future. It is about learning about the wrongs of the past and not making the same mistakes in the future. A question was asked in the text which I feel is most important in moving forward, “How well will we play our part?” We have to go beyond just recycling. We have to use less resources, such as using less plastic, water, land, gas, paper. Vote for people that are for sustainability. Therefore we need to gain knowledge on legislators, legislation, and policy.
